What is a Podcast?
In non-technical terms, Podcasts are an easy way to get an audio program from a website everytime a new episode of the program is published. You "subscribe" to the podcast feed for free using software such as Ipodder or iTunes, and when we create a new show, the software downloads it to your computer. Some software even knows how to load the latest shows onto an mp3 player such as an iPod.
An iPod is not required. You can listen to a podcast on your Mac or PC. According to Wikipedia, Podcasting is: a method of publishing files to the internet, often allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically. It first became popular in late 2004 , used largely for audio files. While it is derived from the word for Apple Computer 's iPod audio player, it has no connection with iPod or requirement that one be used. {Emphasis added} Do I have to subscribe?
Nope, we've made a link that allows you to download the file, or just listen to it in a media player on your computer.
But if you subscribe with podcasting software, you'll never have to remember to come back to see if we put up a new podcast. The software will check for you every time you run it.
