More about Bari...
"For me, music and the experience of making music is ageless. Whatever your age, music either hits you or it doesn't. When
it's right, it tends to be universal."
Bari toured regularly for almost eight years all over the country becoming one of the top grossing acts on the college circuit.
She was often compared to her peer folk/pop singers like Jewel, Norah Jones and Joan Osborne (some of whom she has appeared
with). Her 3 "adult" studio albums received critical acclaim and received great reviews while she graced the covers of entertainment
sections of city papers, college papers and hundreds of zines and music magazines around the country, including Billboard. Several
of her songs were spun on radio and made their way into films and prime time television shows.
After such a long time supporting herself, Bari was growing weary of the road and longed for a change. She began teaching
yoga to kids and adults (which had always been a life long passion) and began spending more time with her family, especially
her niece, then four years old. "Now that I was around more, I could take her on regular outings. I was always on the look out
for something we could enjoy together. I lived in NYC and sometimes I would take her to see "adult music", which she sometimes
liked, though often couldn't sit through for long. And I would take her to see "kiddie" music which she enjoyed but wasn't very
inspiring for me. She had always loved so many of my songs so finally I just decided to create an experience we could both enjoy.
I started to write some of the same kind of music I always did, only I filtered the lyrics based on my niece's experiences-
school, friends, a day at the beach, etc and It became a instant hit with her and her friends. And that was what really made
the shift for me into Family Music, which to me just means good music adults and kids can enjoy together. Also, from the very
beginning I got a lot of encouragement from parents and kids and other important places like the long island children's museum
and artists who were very successful on the kid's music scene."
In addition to the family band and making music, Bari also teachers songwriting and yoga in nyc. She's the yoga teacher for
hunter college and shares her vast knowledge of yoga and meditation with adults and kids through teaching at schools, workshops,
private clients and her popular live presentations for the work place - De-Stress at your Desk™. While yoga and the family rock
band keeps her quite busy these days, she can still occasionally be found in the singer songwriter and college venues at night.
And one day she hopes to revisit her novella "Confessions of an Indiegirl -- a comedy about a rock star in training and her
5,000 steps towards success."
"All our lives are a book. It can be a nice story if you stay aware while you turn the pages. Life isn't about finding your
way, it's about creating it."
